What Perplexity says when someone searches for a physiotherapist

We ran 28 searches for a physiotherapist across UK towns and logged every source Perplexity cited: doctify.com led, in 15 of the 28 answers.

We asked Perplexity "best physiotherapist in [town], UK" once for each of 28 UK towns, on 28 September 2026. A further 8 of these 28 towns were also asked a second time the same day; since that repeat asked exactly the same questions, we count only the first run of each question here, not the repeat.

The answers named an average of 5.1 clinics or practitioners each, and every answer named at least one.

This page is one of seven written from the same batch of September 2026 questions, covering accountants; architects; solicitors doing conveyancing; physiotherapists; dentists; solicitors in general and family law; and vets. Each page reports only the answers for its own trade, counted separately from the others.

Which sites get cited

doctify.com, a clinic-review platform, was cited in 15 of the 28 answers, more than any other source. fresha.com and whatclinic.com were each cited in 13 of 28. physiotherapistsuk.co.uk, a directory specific to this trade, followed in 11 of 28, and trustpilot.com in 9 of 28.

Five things to check first

  1. Claim a Doctify profile and keep the specialisms listed current; it was the most cited source in this sample.
  2. Set up or update a Fresha profile with your services and your prices, kept current against your real availability.
  3. Check your WhatClinic listing and your physiotherapistsuk.co.uk listing match your current address and opening hours.
  4. Check your Trustpilot reviews are recent, since an old or thin review history is less useful to a reader comparing several clinics at once.
  5. Run the search for your own town occasionally. This is one run per question; a second run can name different clinics.

None of the five sites above is the clinic's own website. A clear service page on your own site is still worth having, but it answers a different question to the one we logged here, which is the list of sources Perplexity showed under its answer about physiotherapy in a specific town.

What this means in practice

The three highest counts in this sample all belong to platforms built around bookings or clinic reviews: doctify.com at 15 of 28, and fresha.com and whatclinic.com at 13 of 28 each. physiotherapistsuk.co.uk, a trade-specific directory rather than a general local one, followed closely at 11 of 28. trustpilot.com, a general review site, trailed behind the other four at 9 of 28.
