We asked Perplexity "best vet in [town], UK" or "best veterinary practice in [town], UK" once for each of 26 UK towns, on 27 September 2026 and 28 September 2026. Each town was asked once, so there are no repeat runs to set aside.
The answers named an average of 4.7 practices or vets each, and every answer named at least one.
Which sites get cited
rcvs.org.uk, the regulator's register of veterinary practices, and vetverified.com, a directory of practices with verified reviews, were each cited in 19 of the 26 answers, more than any other source. vetpricecomparisonsite.co.uk, a price comparison directory, followed in 15 of 26. Two further directories, allvets.co.uk and rightvet.uk, tied for fifth place, each in 7 of 26.
Pages from national vet chains also appeared in the source lists, but a chain's pages describe that chain only, so we count them separately from the sites above.
Five things to check first
- Check your entry in the regulator's register of practices: it was among the most cited sources in this sample, and the details there should match your current address and services.
- Claim or update your profile on vetverified.com, with your services, opening hours and out-of-hours arrangements current.
- Check your vetpricecomparisonsite.co.uk listing shows prices that match what you charge today.
- Check your allvets.co.uk and rightvet.uk listings match your current address and opening hours.
- Run the search for your own town occasionally. This is one run per question; a second run can name different practices.
None of the five sites above is the practice's own website. A clear service page on your own site is still worth having, but it answers a different question to the one we logged here, which is the list of sources Perplexity showed under its answer about vets in a specific town.
What this means in practice
The three highest counts in this sample belong to an official register and directories built around practice reviews and prices: rcvs.org.uk and vetverified.com at 19 of 26 each, and vetpricecomparisonsite.co.uk at 15 of 26. allvets.co.uk and rightvet.uk came well below, at 7 of 26 each.
Method and limits
- Engine: Perplexity only. We also track Google AI Overviews separately; this page covers Perplexity.
- 26 questions, one UK town each, answered once, on 27 September 2026 and 28 September 2026.
- A source counts once per answer even if the domain appears more than once in that answer's source list; "cited in X of 26" means X separate answers listed that domain somewhere.
- We do not name any practice or vet on this page. The figures above come from our own run of these questions and can be checked by repeating them and reading the source list for each answer.
